All Sussex Spaniels are Winners at the Amsterdam Winner Show
30 November 2008

An entry number of 27 in the Amsterdam Winner Show Sunday 30 November 2008 is a record for Sussex Spaniels on the European Continent. Sussex Spaniels came from Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Britain, Estonia and the Netherlands. In addition there were Sussex Spaniel fanciers from as far away as Norway.

The Sussex Spaniels were judged by Mrs L.K.M.Erhart. The Best of Breed title was won by Multi-champion Zaphod of Tonispada at Norriss. But all the Sussex were Winners. If they did not win rosettes and medals at least they conquered the hearts of the spectators. These little brown clowns know how to wrap you around their paw. Afterwards there was a special Sussex Spaniel Parade in the main ring of the show. The Parade was a historic and moving event. All the Sussex and their proud owners marched in time to the music into the ring where Ann Lydeking from Denmark with her dog Buster demonstrated the working ability of the Sussex and Ron from the Netherlands with Taksie demonstrated the dog’s obedience.

The preceding day, on Saturday 29 November the Sussex Spaniel friends had gathered in Zandvoort to practise for Sunday's ventures and to discuss modalities for future dialogue. As a result an informal club was founded to organise the next happening and to prepare for the constitutive meeting of a formal Sussex Spaniel entity. That is the beginning of the Sussex Spaniel Society International.

This year's weekend meeting at Lessines (Belgium) went well, with new members attending. This was held in conjunction with the Show at Mechelen. Photos available from the Belgium Page

Following the success of the walk in the Netherlands at the end of May,
another is planned for Saturday 10th October. See Netherlands Page

There are plans for the next meeting in 2010 to be in Wales UK, in conjunction with the Welsh Kennel Club Show weekend of 21/22 August 2010.
